It’s that time of year. The special edition iPhones are here.
Apple has finally given its newest crop of iPhones the bright color treatment. This month the Cupertino company is releasing bright red versions of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.
This is a move Apple made last year as well, rolling out red versions of iPhone 7 at about this point in 2017. An unspecified portion of the proceeds go to Product (RED), a charity organization that fights the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Africa. (No red iPhone X, I’m afraid. The X gets only a Product (RED) leather case.)
Our Review of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
In addition to doing some public good, the red phones allow Apple to inject a little new life into its product line half a year after the iPhones’ release, when enthusiasm and sales have started to wane. This may be a novelty release, but at least its a good one. I bought 8 Plus in December for the camera tech but wish I could’ve chosen the bright scarlet back.
With the red release out of the way, it’s back to wildly speculating what Apple will do with its phone lineup this fall.
